How to Become a Circuit Court Mediator

To become a certified mediator in Florida, individuals must meet specific requirements set by the Florida Supreme Court, which vary depending on the type of mediation certification sought (e.g., County, Circuit, Family, Dependency, Appellate). These requirements generally encompass age, good moral character, educational background, completion of approved training, and mentorship obligations. 

Steps Needed To Start Your New Career

Minimum Requirements

Age Requirement: You must be at least 21 years old. 

Education: You must possess a bachelor's degree or higher. 

Demonstrate good moral character.

Mentorship

Observe mediations or co-mediate with at least two certified circuit court mediators after the course.

You need a total of 100 points. (This is just an example; many factors may change your points). 

Course: 30 Points

Education: 30 Points

Licensed Attorney: 5 Points

Observations: 35 Points

Total: 100 Points

(Observation: 10 Points, Co-mediation:15 Points).

Background Check

After submission, the DRC will provide instructions for fingerprinting and a background check.

Training and Certification

Complete our Florida Supreme Court-Approved Training. â€‹

Application

Submit to the DRC (Application, Fee, Mentorship Documentation, Course Certification, Proof of Education or Letter of Good Standing from The Florida Bar).

DRC Decision

Approval or request for additional documentation.
